Long before environmental regulations were enacted, Oil-Dri began a program of responsible resource management. These efforts limit our carbon footprint by means of conservation, efficient use of non-renewable minerals and land reclamation.
We develop operational strategies that help conserve the use of our natural resources. Our mining team manages detailed geological, environmental, habitat, and wetland assessments before breaking ground. Quality-control drilling and sample testing are conducted for all active mine sites to qualify the material for various products and to develop detailed mining plans.
We restore each mine habitat to a condition that is equal to or better than it was before breaking-ground. Our teams replant indigenous plants and trees, create bodies of water, and introduce various fish species to preserve or increase the biodiversity of the site.
We are always seeking new ways to mitigate the impact of our operations. Internal programs are in place to measure air quality and improve our manufacturing facilities. All Oil-Dri plants strive to exceed the quality standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency, Mining Safety and Health Administration, and other Federal, state, and local regulations.
Reducing waste in all aspects of our business is a priority for Oil-Dri. We invest resources in the development of new market applications for our processing byproducts.
We develop transportation strategies that maximize the amount of product shipped per mile and use the most environmentally friendly modes of transportation whenever possible. This limits our environmental impact and helps lower costs to our customers and ultimately the consumer.
